Small Fossil Whale Vertebrae From Maryland

This is an isolated fossil whale vertebrae found near the Potomac River in Maryland. This would put it in the Calvert Formation which is Miocene in age. Isolated fossil whale fossils are fairly common in this area though articulated specimens have been found.
