Superb, 9.9" Fossil Oreodont (Eporeodon) Skull w/ Atlas Vertebra

This is an exceptionally well preserved, 10" long skull of an oreodont (Eporeodon major). It was collected from the Brule Formation (White River Badlands Group) in Shannon County, South Dakota and would be approximately 30-33 million years old. Unlike most skulls on the market, this skull is approximately 95-97% complete with very little crushing or bone gap fill restoration. A neat addition to this skull is the preserved atlas vertebra seen at the posterior end of the skull, along with some additional partial vertebra elements. Typically the vertebrae become disarticulated and lost over the years.

The skull itself measures 10" long and is accompanied by an acrylic-metal display stand to assist with presentation.

Most of the incisors have been restored, while the remaining teeth are either natural or have undergone some minor gap fill or surface restoration. The canines are nicely intact with some crack repairs and minor surface restoration, primarily to the lower and upper right canine. There are a couple of repaired cracks through the mandible and some restoration just beneath the restored incisors. The upper skull is nearly complete, with the only significant restoration being reconstruction of the left zygomatic arch.
