Two Detailed Fossil March Flies (Plecia) - Wyoming

This is a pair of fossil march flies (Plecia pealei) from the Eocene aged Green River Formation in Wyoming. They are located on a small thin slab of shale. While this formation is best known for its stunningly preserved fossil fish, insect and plant fossils are frequently found. The larger fly is .55" wide.
