PICTURE STANDSTONE FOR SALE

Toroweap sandstone, carved into stunning works of art, is sourced from a claim near Snowflake, Arizona. This unique stone comes from the lower member of the Toroweap Formation, a significant geological layer in the upper Grand Canyon sequence. The sandstone's striking natural patterns and vibrant bands are the result of iron oxide-rich groundwater permeating the rock over time. These colors can become even more brilliant when exposed to intense heat. This fascinating property was discovered by a geologist who noticed a particularly bright piece of sandstone partially buried in the ground. After determining that the brighter hues were caused by chemical changes from extreme heat, possibly due to a forest fire, the geologist experimented with "baking" the rock at 500°F. This process successfully enhanced the colors, replicating the natural phenomenon.

One of the most distinctive features of Toroweap sandstone is the dark brown lines that form ridges and ledges in its carvings, adding depth and contrast to its already breathtaking appearance.
