1.6" Gemmy Clinozoisite Crystal Cluster - Peru
This is a 1.6" wide cluster of lustrous, yellow-brown clinozoisite crystals collected near Huancavelica, Peru. The crystals are situated on what appears to be a green epidote matrix.
About Clinozoisite
Clinozoisite is a member of the epidote group that forms in metamorphic rocks altered by heat and pressure. It is typically pale green, gray, yellowish, or nearly colorless, with a glassy to pearly luster. The mineral commonly occurs as prismatic crystals or granular masses within rocks like schist and gneiss.
Composed mainly of calcium, aluminum, and silicate, clinozoisite is closely related to epidote but contains less iron, giving it a lighter color. While primarily valued by collectors, transparent green varieties are sometimes cut as gemstones.
