1.6" Lavender Kunzite Crystal (26.78 g) - Afghanistan
This is a beautiful, 1.6" long pastel purple-pink spodumene (kunzite variety) crystal that was collected from the Dara-e-Pech pegmatite field in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan. It has been mounted to an acrylic display base with mineral tack.
About Kunzite
Kunzite is the best-known variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate mineral. It gets its pale pink to violet color from trace amounts of manganese. Kunzite is found in lithium-rich pegmatites and is known for its strong pleochroism, often appearing colorless, pink, or violet when viewed from different angles.
Kunzite is named after mineralogist George Frederick Kunz, who was the first to identify it as a unique variety of spodumene in 1902. It is sensitive to sunlight and heat, which can cause its delicate color to fade over time.
