About Creedite

Creedite is a rare and vibrant mineral known for its striking crystal clusters, often displaying a range of colors from vivid orange to purple, colorless, or even blue. It typically forms as radiating sprays or spherical aggregates of elongated, prismatic crystals. These eye-catching formations make creedite highly sought after by mineral collectors.

Chemically, creedite is a complex calcium aluminum sulfate fluoride hydroxide mineral with the formula Ca₃Al₂(SO₄)(F,OH)₁₀·2H₂O. It often occurs in the oxidized zones of fluorite-rich hydrothermal deposits. The most famous and prolific creedite specimens come from Mexico, particularly the Navidad Mine in Durango, which produces vibrant orange and purple clusters. Other notable sources include Colorado (where the mineral was first discovered near Creede), Kazakhstan, and Bolivia. Despite its delicate appearance, creedite is relatively durable and offers a brilliant aesthetic for display.
