1.8" Polished Garnet In Wollastonite Stone - Namibia

This is a 1.8" wide polished pocket stone featuring vivid orange grossular garnets dispersed through a creamy white wollastonite matrix. Collected in Namibia, the material takes an excellent polish that highlights the contrasting textures—the translucent to semi-translucent garnet crystals set against the silky, fibrous sheen of the wollastonite host rock.

About Garnet in Wollastonite

Polished garnets in wollastonite from Namibia beautifully highlight the contrasting mineralogy of this classic skarn assemblage. The matrix is composed of wollastonite, a calcium silicate mineral (CaSiO₃) formed through high-temperature contact metamorphism when silica-rich fluids interact with limestone. In its natural state it develops fibrous, radiating, or massive habits, but when polished it takes on a smooth, porcelain-like sheen with subtle white to pale-green tones.

Scattered throughout this matrix are grossular garnets, a calcium-aluminum garnet species known for its warm cinnamon, honey, and amber hues. Grossular forms sharp dodecahedral or trapezohedral crystals and often shows excellent clarity and internal glow when polished, making its color and structure even more pronounced. These garnets originate in calcium-rich skarn environments where intruding magma chemically alters the surrounding carbonate rock.
