11.8" Polished, Green (Jade) Onyx Obelisk - Afghanistan
This is a beautiful, 11.8" tall, polished obelisk made out of jade onyx, also known as green onyx, that was quarried in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. There is some chipping along the corner of the obelisk near the top.
Afghan Jade Onyx or Afghan Green Onyx is collected from several different quarries in Afghanistan: Bamyan, Helmand and Faryab being the most common and well known quarries. While tests have indicated that the "onyx" from these localities are actually travertine, a variety of aragonite, the term onyx has remained the common name used for this material.
