2.05" Polished Spinel in Granite Sphere - India
This is a nicely polished, 2.05" wide sphere consisting of "ruby" spinel embedded within a black to dark gray biotite-rich matrix. The red to purple spinel crystals are often seen in octahedral shapes. Comes with an acrylic ring display stand.
About Spinel
Spinel is a metamorphic magnesium-aluminum oxide known for deep reddish-pink octahedral crystals. Before minerals could be identified through chemical tests, spinels were considered rubies. Also like corundums, spinel takes well to lab growth: light blue lab-grown spinel is often an inexpensive alternative for aquamarine.
