2" Metallic Wodginite Crystals On Quartz - Itatiaia Mine, Brazil

This is a 2" long example of the mineral Wodginite from the Itatiaia Mine in Minas Gerais, Brazil. A mineral that is much heftier than it looks, this wodginite is quite a fun little piece with a nice sub-metallic sheen to it.

It has been mounted to an acrylic display base with mineral tack.

Originally discovered in the Wodgina pegmatite of Australia, Wodginite is a manganese, tin, and tantalum oxide mineral that looks very similar to other reflective silver-colored minerals. Like galena, wodginite is much heavier than its physical size would lead you to believe. It is fine grained and has a sub-metallic luster. Wodginite is often found in pegmatites in association with quartz, muscovite, or albite. It has since been found outside Australia, including in eastern Canada, Brazil, the southeastern United States, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and the Czech Republic, among a few other locations.
