3.1" Sage-Green Quartz Crystals - Mongolia
These are beautiful sage-green quartz crystals that were collected from Inner Mongolia. The surfaces of this crystal cluster are covered in smaller quartz growths, giving the crystal a bumpy structure and wet appearance. At the base of the crystals, a brown core with inclusions can be seen. Most of the green quartz out of Mongolia is a result of hedenbergite inclusions. While this crystal doesn't contain any visible inclusions through its green portions, the green color is likely still a result of hedenbergite. Other trade names for these specimens are "bluish-green quartz" and "Mongolian Elestial Quartz".
Silicon Dioxide, also known as SiO2 or Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich, hot watery solutions called hydrothermal environments, at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountains forming, and can be hundreds of millions of years old.
