3.3" Gemmy Cobaltoan Calcite Crystals w/ Chrysocolla - D.R. Congo
This is a gorgeous cluster of lustrous cobaltoan (cobalt-bearing) calcite crystals that are partially covered by sky-blue chrysocolla and rare kolwezite. A unique color combination that is sure to draw a crowd. The specimen was collected from the Mashamba West Mine (Sicomines copper-cobalt project) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Cobaltoan calcite, also known as cobaltocalcite, is one of many different varieties of calcite, forming with a chemical composition of (Ca,Co)CO3. It crystallizes in a trigonal crystal system and forms rhombohedral or scalenohedral crystals. These crystals tend to display a pink color that ranges anywhere from a pinkish-salmon to a hot pink.
