3.4" Polished Bauxite (Aluminum Ore) Sphere - Russia
This is an incredible polished sphere that is made of bauxite (aluminum ore) mined in Russia. It is old collection material that was provided in its rough form and later polished to a glossy-finish. The polish brings out the spherical, red-brown ore bodies which contrast beautifully against the vibrant orange oxide matrix. Seldom is this beautiful material found on the market.

Bauxite is the world's primary ore of aluminum. It is a heterogeneous material consisting mostly of the minerals gibbsite (Al(OH)3), boehmite (γ-AlO(OH)) and diaspore (α-AlO(OH)), mixed with the two iron oxides, goethite and hematite, the clay mineral kaolinite, as well as small amounts of anatase (TiO2) and ilmenite (FeTiO3 or FeOTiO2). Australia and China are the world's two primary producers of this ore.
