3.7" Fibrous Pink Wupatkiite Formation - Cameron, Arizona

This is a 3.7" wide specimen of pink, fibrous wupatkiite, collected from the Cameron Mining District (North Grey Mountain) in Coconino County, Arizona.

Wupatkiite is a rare secondary mineral that occurs as a product of oxidation of cobalt, nickel, molybdenum, and uranium primary mineralization. Formations of wupatkiite have only been documented from a few locations, including Arizona (USA), Costa Rica, Russia, Europe, and Cyprus. It is named for the Wupatki Indian pueblos, a national monument near its type locality of Cameron, Arizona.
