These prehnite pseudomorphs after laumontite are striking, sculptural mineral specimens in which prehnite has completely replaced the original laumontite crystals while preserving their form. These pieces often display sharp, chiseled, blade-like shapes inherited from the former zeolite, now transformed into smooth, translucent prehnite with soft green to yellow-green hues.
Most known examples come from the basalt quarries of Maharashtra, India—especially the Deccan Traps—where hydrothermal fluids rich in calcium and aluminum gradually replaced the unstable laumontite with the more durable prehnite.
