4.7" Polished Snakeskin Jasper Bear - Western Australia

This is a vibrantly colored piece snakeskin jasper from Western Australia. It has been sculpted into an abstract bear and flawlessly polished to a glossy-finish, revealing the very interesting banded patterns. The base has been cut flat, allowing it to stand up nicely on a flat surface.

Snakeskin jasper forms as seams of jaspilite in a banded iron formation called the "Weeli Wooli Formation", which is about 2.5 billion years old.

About Snakeskin Jasper

Snakeskin jasper is a variety of patterned chalcedony prized for its distinctive, scale-like surface textures and intricate natural patterns that resemble reptile skin. Its colors commonly range through earthy tans, creams, browns, reds, and grays, often arranged in fractured, cellular, or mosaic-like designs that give each piece a rugged, organic appearance. These patterns formed as silica-rich fluids filled and solidified within cracks, cavities, or brecciated zones of host rock, preserving complex internal structures.
