4.9" Polished Free-Standing Peach Moonstone - Madagascar
This is a 4.9" tall piece of polished peach moonstone, mined and crafted in Madagascar. The base of the specimen has been cut flat for aesthetic presentation.
Moonstone is a common and well-known gemstone that earned its name from its white to bluish "glowing" appearance in the light, caused by a phenomenon similar to chatoyance called adularescence. This light play is a result of albite crystals within the main orthoclase feldspar crystal lattice that form as a scale-like crystal formation. The light then reflects and scatters off of these formations, resulting in what appears to be a glow from beneath the surface of the stone. Good quality moonstone can have almost a bluish adularescence.
