5.7" Dolomite Crystals over Hematite Included Quartz Crystals - China

This is a beautiful 5.7" wide mineral specimen featuring a dense aggregation of dolomite crystals over a bed of quartz crystals with hematite inclusions. A mixture of chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite, and galena can also be found along the underside of the specimen. It was collected from Dongxiang County in Jiangxi, China.

Comes with an acrylic display stand.

Dongxiang County is noted for its porphyry-related polymetallic mineralization, particularly rich in copper and associated sulfide minerals. The most prominent species include chalcopyrite and chalcocite, accompanied by sphalerite, galena, and pyrite, all occurring within quartz-dominated gangue assemblages. Iron-bearing carbonates such as siderite are also present. This mineralization is genetically linked to magmatic-hydrothermal processes within a copper–tungsten metallogenic system, making Dongxiang an important locality for both economic geology and fine mineral specimens.

Galena is a lead-based mineral and the primary ore of lead, and has been used for its lead content for thousands of years. Galena typically displays a gray metallic luster and forms cubes or octahedral crystals. The chemical composition of galena is PbS.

While galena will not pose a health hazard by sitting on the shelf or even from casual handling, we suggest washing hands following handling due to the mineral's lead content.
