5" Polished Miriam Jasper Tower
his is a polished, 5" tall tower of Miriam Jasper, a striking fossiliferous stone from India. Sometimes referred to as “Calligraphy Stone” or “Elephant Skin Jasper,” this material is actually a unique form of fossilized shell and algae-rich sediment that solidified millions of years ago. Its intricate, script-like patterns are natural mineral formations—often iron-rich—creating bold swirls, hieroglyphic markings, and earthy tones of brown, cream, and gold.
About Miriam Jasper
Miriam Jasper is also known by the trade names "Arabic Script Jasper", "Elephant Skin Jasper", "Calligraphy Stone" or "Coquina Jasper". It is a fossiliferous sedimentary rock mined from the Himalayan Mountains in India.
This stone began as a silica-rich mud packed with shell fragments, known as coquina—a term that comes from the Spanish word for cockleshells or shellfish. Coquinas form in high-energy marine environments, like coastlines, where waves and currents wear down, break, and sort the shells. Over time, these fragments fossilized, and the silica-rich mud transformed into jasper. The vibrant orange color comes from iron oxidation.
