7.8" Apple-Green Fluorite Crystals with Smoky Quartz - Fluorescent!

Here is an absolutely stunning cluster of apple-green fluorite crystals that formed over a smoky quartz crystal encrusted matrix, collected from the Erongo Mountains in Namibia. Mixed in with the smoky quartz is hyalite opal and black tourmaline (schorl) crystals. Under shortwave UV, the fluorite exhibits a purple-blue fluorescence which is interrupted by areas of vibrant green hyalite opal. The opal's reaction to shortwave UV is a result of trace uranyl ions.

The specimen sits on its edge nicely without the need for a display stand.

About the Erongo Region of Namibia

The Erongo Region in Namibia is renowned for its diverse and high-quality mineral specimens, particularly gemstones and collector minerals from pegmatites. These popular minerals include fine aquamarine, tourmaline (schorl, elbaite), quartz (smoky, hyalite opal), fluorite, jeremejevite (aluminium borate mineral), and siderite pseudomorphs, alongside significant uranium, gold, salt, granite, and marble deposits, making it a hub for both artisanal and industrial mining.
