This vibrant piece of Fruit Jasper—also known as Ajooba Jasper or Sabalgarh Marble—features a striking mosaic of red, yellow, green, khaki, and brown nodules set within a warm buff-to-beige matrix. Its lively, “fruit-mix” appearance comes from clusters of rounded inclusions that resemble pistachios or berries embedded in stone—and in many cases, these nodules actually contain tiny fossil fragments such as crinoid stem pieces and other bioclastic debris from the ancient seafloor. These remnants of marine life add an unexpected paleontological twist to the stone’s already eye-catching patterning, making each piece even more visually unique.
Despite its common trade name, scientific analysis shows that Fruit Jasper is not a true jasper at all—it is a calcitic to dolomitic marble originating from the Silurian-age limestone deposits of the Gora Quarry near Sabalgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India. Raman spectroscopy reveals dominant calcite peaks, dolomite within the matrix, and hematite contributing to the red coloration.
