1.8" Colorful Petrified Wood Pocket Stones

These are polished pocket stones made from colorful petrified wood that's collected in Indonesia. The colors of this wood are reminiscent of some Madagascar, Triassic age Araucaria petrified wood specimens. This petrified wood is likely Miocene in age.

They average about 1.8" across, but being hand polished from a natural stone they can vary slightly in size, color and patterning. The pictures are representative of the stone(s) you will receive.

Petrified wood is the name given to wood that has been turned into stone (fossilized) through the process of permineralization. All of the organic matter becomes replaced by minerals, while much of the original structure such as tree rings in retained. For this to happen the wood needs to be buried in an environment both low in oxygen (preventing decomposition) and with flowing, mineral-laden water. The coloration is due to the various minerals that are present during fossilization. For example red colors are due to iron compounds, greens due to copper, etc.

The stone is polished into an oval shape and is rounded on all sides. Polished stones of this size and shape are generally referred to as pocket stones as they will easily fit into a pocket. The pictures are representative to the stone you will receive, but there is some variation in colors and patterning.
