This is a beautiful fossil urchin of the species Pygurus jurensis, from the Kimmeridgian stage of the Jurassic period (~145 million years ago). It was found on the Île de Ré in France. This urchin measures 1.4" in length and is in decent condition, though there is some cracking an chipping of the shell.
