10.2" Fossil Fern (Lyginopteris) Plate - Alabama

This is an amazing, fossil fern (Lyginopteris) plate, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. This incredible specimen is covered with layers of Lyginopteris. It has leaflets, branches and limbs, some of which are so well preserved that plant material remains. They are so well preserved, venation is still visible in the leaves. The reverse side has equally striking fossils including a beautifully preserved crotch between two branches. I may be difficult to decide which side to display.

Lyginopteris is a genus of seed fern that contain extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

Comes with an acrylic stand.
