12.8" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Sphenopteris) Plate - France
This is a spectacular fossil fern (Sphenopteris leptophylla) plate from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The longest fern frond measures 9.7" long and they are nicely spread out across a 12.8 x 6.9" slab of rock.
