2.2" Detailed Crotalocephalina Trilobite - Atchana, Morocco
This is a beautiful, 2.2" long, trilobite (Crotalocephalina gibbus) quarried from the Lhandar Formation near Atchana, Morocco. It is nicely inflated and has been prepared from the surrounding limestone so that it looks like it is ready to crawl off of the rock.
It has a unique feature in that there is a quartz seem running through the rock and its head. The color of the shell on one side of the seam is different to that on the other. This is likely due to hydrothermal fluids running through this crack leaching minerals from the shell on one side. It has no restoration.

About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
