2.7" Eocene Fossil Leaf (Oreopanax) - Insect Predation!

This is an Eocene aged fossil leaf of the species Oreopanax elongatum, a genus with living members in Central and South America. The leaf is 2.7" long and on a piece of shale. It is nicely preserved with crisp edges and brown coloration, as well as signs of insect predation.

It comes from the Green River Formation in Uintah County, Utah. While this formation is best known for well-preserved fossil fish found in Wyoming, other sections of the formation contain very diverse flora and insect fauna.
