This is a 2.8" long example of Cartersoceras shidleri, a nautiloid cephalopod from the Middle Ordovician period. This fossil is part of an old collection from the Grand Detour Formation in Rock County, Wisconsin. The cephalopod has been prepped free from the rock it was found in.
