3.1" Oligocene Fossil Fish (Beusinkiellia & Glossanodon) Plate -Poland

This 3.1" wide plate contains a 2.25" long clupeoid fish fossil of the species Beksinskiella longimania (Heckel, 1850) and a 1.2" long marine smelt of the species Glossanodon musceli (Pauca, 1929). It comes out of the nannofossil biozone NP24 of the Krosno Formation Unit near Sobniów, Poland. Beautiful bone preservation on this specimen. There is a repaired crack through the rock/fossil.

Comes with an acrylic display stand.

The species Glossanodon musceli is assigned to this extinct marine smelt, or argentine (family Argentinidae), a family known for their large schools close to the sea floor. They feed on plankton, especially krill, amphipods, small cephalopods, chaetognaths, and ctenophores.

Beksinskiella longimania is a new clupeoid genus from the Oligocene of Poland. A detailed publication can be found at the link below.
