3.7" Spiny Quadrops Trilobite - Top Quality Specimen

This is a perfectly prone, 3.7" long, top quality example of the super spiny trilobite Quadrops flexuosa from Ofaten, Morocco. Quadrops has a distinctive, four-pronged rostrum coming off the front of it's head as well as an array of spines covering its entire body.

This specimen is a top quality example. It's good-sized for the species, perfectly prone which is unusual and has zero restoration. Another interesting feature is there are several redddish iron nodules attached to it's spines and shell.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
