4.5" Fossil Leaf (Davidia) - Montana

This is a 4.5" fossil leaf (Davidia antiqua) from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaf where some of it flaked onto the negative during collection.

Davidia is a member of the sub family Nyssaceae, a member of the dogwood family.

There is a partial leaf along one corner of this specimen, likely of the genus Davidia. The rock broke into several pieces during collection requiring repair, some of the cracks went through the leaf. This specimen includes an acrylic display stand.
