5.5" Fossil Oreodont (Merycoidodon) Skull - Wyoming
This is a 5.5" long upper skull of an oreodont (Merycoidodon culbertsoni). It was collected from the the White River Formation in Wyoming and would be approximately 30-34 million years old. The bone/teeth preservation of this skull is incredible considering most of these skulls are typically found crushed and heavily fragmented.
Comes with an acrylic display stand to assist with presentation.
The left zygomatic arch required some crack repair to piece back together, while the left arch has been completely restored. Both orbitals are intact with no restoration. The majority of the teeth in this skull are intact and in phenomenal condition. Repair and restoration of the teeth include the left canine which has been remounted to the skull, with a restored crown. The anterior-most premolar is also restored. There are some additional spots or crack repair in various locations, however the skull is overall beautifully preserved.

Oreodonts are an extinct mammal most closely related to camels and pigs. They have no close relatives living today. They were herbivorous, with short faces and fang-like canine teeth. About the size of a sheep, they roamed the plains of North America in huge numbers during the Oligocene period.
