.8" Mississippian Echinoid (Archaeocidaris) Fossil - Iowa
This is a 1.4" wide fossil echinoid (sea urchin) plate containing a beautiful Archaeocidaris aliquantula specimen with spines exposed along both sides of the specimen. It was collected from the Gilmore City Formation in Gilmore City, Iowa. It is preserved 3D and has been prepared with air abrasives.
Comes with a floating frame display case.
Sea urchins are a type of echinoderm that are still living relatively unchanged today. They live at the bottom of soft ocean floors and have long spines protruding from their central bodies. They move along the bottom of the ocean using many small feet while feeding on various plant and animal matter.
