9.3" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Callipteridium) Frond Plate - France
This is a fascinating and rare fossil seed fern (Callipteridium sp.) frond plate from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The ferns are beautifully laid out on a rectangular-cut, 9.3 x 7.1", thick slab of rock. A truly incredible fossil fern plate!
