Huge 6" Drotops Trilobite - Issoumour, Morocco

This is a large specimen of the giant phacopid trilobite Drotops megalomanicus quarried from the hard black limestones of Issoumour, Morocco. The tail is slightly tucked but had it been outstretched this trilobite would have been just over 6 inches long. It's well inflated with good eye facet and shell preservation. Several calcite seams which are frequently present in the rocks at this location can be seen running through the trilobite. There is some restoration on this specimen as with nearly all of the Drotops. There is some shell restoration on the pleural tips on the left side of the body and then a patch on the very front of it's head. Probably about 5-7% total.

How a Drotops might be found in the field, with part of the tail exposed in the broken rock. It would then be prepared using airscribes and air abrasives a process that would likely take 20+ hours for a good specimen..
