Rare, 15" Fossil Stingray (Heliobatis) With Knightia - Wyoming
This is a detailed, 19" long fossil stingray (Heliobatis radians) from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Stingrays are one of the rare and most sought after fossils from this formation. This specimen is beautifully preserved and presented on a 23.5 x 16.5" slab of rock that has been backed and is ready to hang on a wall.
Like the vast majority of Green River stingrays you see on the market this one was found in multiple pieces and had to be repaired and inlayed into a larger piece of rock for display purposes. It has some minimal restoration along repaired cracks and on some of the ray tips on the disk.
Heliobatis is an extinct genus of freshwater ray primarily known from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. The teeth are triangular and shaped for feeding on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.
