Small Blue Forest Petrified Wood Bookends

This is a great set of bookends from one of the most colorful petrified wood deposits in the US, the "Blue Forest" in Eden Valley, Wyoming. This petrified wood is highly coveted among collectors and is some of the most beautiful in the world. The agatized wood is a rich combination of blue, black and tan colors.

Each bookend weighs about 3 1/2 pounds and is 8 inches tall, 4 inches deep and 1 1/2 inches thick. The outer display surface has received a high quality polishing so that this unique petrified wood preservation is gorgeously displayed.

The Blue Forest petrified wood was formed when Schinoxylon trees died and fell into a swamp. They were rapidly covered by algae, forming casts that preserved the original bark surfaces of the trees and kept them from decaying. Eventually the algae casts and the spaces between them were filled in by minerals, often in exquisite, crystalline form.
