ETHIOPIAN CHOCOLATE OPAL FOR SALE

Ethiopian chocolate opal is a nodular form of opal discovered in the 1990s. It forms within a roughly 10 foot thick layer of volcanic ash on the northern side of Yita ridge in the Amhara Region of northern Ethiopia. These nodules are known for their chocolate-like coloration and exceptional color play, though only a small percentage of these nodules actual display opalescence. Red and orange are the most common colors seen, with occasional and rare blue. Specimens with a complete color spectrum are understandably considered to be the highest quality of Ethiopian chocolate opal.
