Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz that displays a striking combination of purple amethyst and golden citrine within a single crystal. This rare color zoning forms when different oxidation states of iron develop in the crystal during growth, typically influenced by subtle temperature variations within the host rock. The result is a dramatic blend of colors that can appear sharply divided or softly blended, depending on the specimen.
Most natural ametrine comes from Bolivia, with the famous Anahí Mine producing the world’s finest material. Ametrine is valued both as a gemstone and as a collector mineral, admired for its beauty as well as the geological conditions required for its formation.
