1.5" White Calcite on Bright Orange Wulfenite - Iran
This 1.5" wide specimen contains lustrous bright orange, wafer-thin wulfenite crystals. The crystals are arranged on a matrix which is covered in snow-white calcite. Portions of the wulfenite is also covered with calcite. It was collected from the Ahmad Abad Mine, in the Yazd Province, Iran. The combination of different minerals is exceptionally beautiful.

About The Ahmad Abad Mine
The Ahmad Abad mine is located 60 kilometers northeast of Bafq and 5 kilometers west of Ahmad Abad village. It opened in 1974 and operated eight tunnels for lead-zinc ores, with notable wulfenite crystals recorded at that time. No further evidence of specimens is found until 2002, when a Geological Survey team from Tehran reported the rediscovery of wulfenite in the Ahmad Abad mine workings.
The mine is internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing exceptional, highly-prized specimens. Wulfenite is the most famous mineral found here, known for vibrant tangerine-orange, golden-yellow, and orangey-red tabular crystal clusters. Wulfenite crystals in this mine are often found in combination with other minerals such as calcite and barite.

It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of hydrothermal lead deposits, its color ranging anywhere between yellow to bright orange and red and occasionally brown. Typically forming as tabular, stubby, or pyramidal crystals, this unique mineral can be both brilliantly transparent and opaque.
