1.7" Garnet Cluster with Feldspar and Epidote - Pakistan

This garnet centered specimen comes from a location in Pakistan, where associations of deep orange/brown garnets, feldspar, golden mica, green epidote, and calcite are typically found. The garnets from this location display a unique pattern, which can be seen along the faces of the crystals when rotated under light.

Relatively small and medium sized epidote crystals can be seen protruding from one half of the specimen, while the other half displays lustrous dark red-orange clustered garnets of all sizes. Much of the epidote is blanketed in a thin layer of yellow-green colored feldspar.

Feldspars are a group of rock-forming tectosilicate minerals. It is also one of the most common minerals on earth, making up nearly 60% of the crust.

Epidote is a green, silicate mineral that is commonly found in regionally metamorphosed rocks. It often forms lustrous, elongated and interconnected crystals that are highly coveted by collectors. While nearly all epidote is green it may take on many different shades and tones from yellowish to deep green.

Garnets are nesosilicates having the general formula X3Y2(Si O4)3. There are many species of garnet which are pyrope, almandine, spessartine, uvarovite, andradite and grossular (varieties of which are hessonite or cinnamon-stone and tsavorite).

Garnet species are found in many colors including red, orange, yellow, green, purple, brown, blue, black, pink, and colorless, with reddish shades most common.

Spessartine, often mistakenly referred to as spessartite, is a nesosilicate, manganese aluminium garnet species, Mn2+3Al2(SiO4)3. The name is a derivative of Spessart in Bavaria, Germany, the type locality of the mineral.
