12.5" Free-Standing Polished Chevron Amethyst - Zambia

This is a beautiful, 12.5" tall, free-standing sculpture made from a deep-purple amethyst formation known as chevron amethyst, collected in Zambia. It is commonly marketed as zebra amethyst due to its striped pattern. One side has been cut flat and polished to a glossy finish, while the remainder of the piece has been left in its natural state. The bottom of the specimen has been cut flat so that it stands nicely on its own.

About Chevron Amethyst

Chevron amethyst is a naturally banded variety of amethyst characterized by striking V-shaped or zigzag patterns formed by alternating layers of purple amethyst and white quartz. These distinctive chevrons develop as quartz crystals grow in pulses under changing geological conditions, recording subtle variations in chemistry and temperature during formation. Amethyst itself is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace amounts of iron and natural irradiation during crystal growth, and has been prized for centuries as both a gemstone and a collector mineral. In chevron amethyst, the interplay between translucent white quartz and richly colored amethyst creates a dramatic visual contrast that highlights the mineral’s internal structure and growth history, making it especially popular for polished stones, points, and decorative specimens.
