About the Rowley Mine

The Rowley Mine, located in the Painted Rock Mountains of Maricopa County, Arizona, is one of the world's most celebrated localities for wulfenite, producing brilliant orange to golden-yellow tabular crystals that rank among the finest known. The mine is especially famous for aesthetic combinations of transparent, glassy wulfenite crystals perched atop vivid red to orange mimetite, creating specimens that are instantly recognizable to collectors. In addition to these classic combinations, the Rowley Mine has yielded attractive specimens of vanadinite, barite, cerussite, anglesite, galena, malachite, and chrysocolla, along with an impressive suite of rare secondary lead and copper minerals. It is also a renowned micromineral locality and the type locality for the rare minerals rowleyite and phoxite. Although originally worked for lead and molybdenum ores in the early 20th century, the Rowley Mine is now prized almost exclusively for its exceptional mineral specimens, which remain highly sought after by collectors and museums around the world.

About Vanadinite

Vanadinite is a mineral belonging to the apatite group of phosphates. It is one of the main industrial ores of the metal vanadium and a minor source of lead. A dense, brittle mineral, it is usually found in the form of red hexagonal crystals.

The lead and vanadium in the vanadinite can be harmful if absorbed into the blood stream by inhalation or ingestion. The crystals won't pose a health hazard just sitting on a shelf, but we recommend that you wash your hands after handling.
