About Salairsky Mine
Russia’s Salairsky mine has been in operation since the 1780s, with modern mining operations beginning in the 1930s. It is known for being prolific in gold, silver, lead, and copper. In 2013, rich deposits of high-quality azurite and malachite were discovered when specimens were noticed in slag heaps at the Kamenushinskoye copper deposit. Specimens from this deposit are now highly prized by collectors for their beauty. The intense colors in these azurite and malachite specimens are due to the copper ions in the minerals.
