About Unakite

Unakite is a distinctive and colorful stone composed primarily of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and clear to milky quartz. This unique combination of minerals creates a mottled, earthy pattern of green and salmon-pink tones that make Unakite instantly recognizable. It was first discovered in the Unakas Mountains of North Carolina, from which it takes its name, though it can also be found in parts of Virginia, South Africa, and Brazil.

Formed through the metamorphism of granite, Unakite has a coarse, granular texture and takes an excellent polish, making it a favorite among lapidary artists for cabochons, carvings, and decorative stones. Its warm, natural colors and balanced contrast of hues give it an appealing, organic beauty that reflects the harmony of its mineral components and the ancient geological forces that created it.
