About Hematite Geodes
Hematite geodes from Western Australia, particularly around the Paraburdoo and Pilbara regions, are prized for their heavy, metallic, and often iridescent, botryoidal or crystallized interiors. The Paraburdoo area is known for producing high-quality hematite geodes which are often cut in half and polished, displaying a metallic, mirror-like finish.
These geodes are grey to black on the outside, often with a rusty red streak. Inside, they can feature sparkling crystals (specularite) or smooth, metallic, botryoidal formations. They form in iron-rich, oxidized environments, often associated with banded iron formations.
