4.6" Polished Magnesite Section - Western Australia
This is a 4.6" wide section of polished magnesite, collected in Western Australia. This magnesite specimen has a slight yellow/green color like that of nickel-bearing magnesite. It is sturdy enough to stand on its own without the need for a display stand.
Magnesite is a magnesium carbonate mineral and a primary source of magnesium. It's a member of the calcite group of carbonate minerals, typically displaying a chalky white color, however it can also be gray, brown, yellow, orange, pale pink, or colorless. Magnesite is used in many ways, including use as a refractory material, as a catalyst, a filler in the production of synthetic rubber, and in the preparation of magnesium chemicals and fertilizers.
