5.1" Vibrant Azurite and Malachite Crystal Association - China

This is a vibrant, 5.1" wide association of alluring azurite crystals with fibrous malachite, collected from the Liufengshan Mine in China. The azurite crystals bear gorgeous blue coloration and formed as bladed aggregates over a malachite encrusted matrix

One edge of this specimen has been cut flat for presentation purposes.

Azurite and Malachite are known to form in union with each other, for their chemical makeup is very similar. In fact, the presence of more or less water in the location of formation, is enough to determine whether an abundance of malachite over azurite, or vise-versa, will accumulate.

These minerals tend to be found near copper deposits, which accounts for the colors the minerals display. This association of azurite and malachite on copper rich, iron oxide matrix was found in the Liufengshan mine.
