7.5" Free-Standing, Polished, Brecciated Pink Opal - Australia

This is a 7.5" tall, free-standing, polished section of richly colored, brecciated pink opal. One side has been polished to a mirror like finish.

The horizontal seam from which this pink opal specimen came from, was discovered in Western Australia in 2011. Prior to its discovery, pink opal was only known to occur in Peru. Pink opal from this location displays a wide range of pink hues, from dark rose pink to nearly white.

"Breccia" or "brecciated" is the term for rock that has been shattered by geologic forces and later cemented back together by means of percolation and solidification of mineral-rich solutions.
